Builders in Aldwick

Aldwick is the quieter, greener end of Bognor Regis, and the houses along its coastal edge sit on plots most of the town can only envy. That is what shapes the work here: not squeezing another room out of a tight footprint, but making a big house and a big garden work together.

Terrace and garden work of the kind the larger Aldwick plots ask for.

The stock splits two ways. Along the front and through the Aldwick Bay and Craigweil estates are substantial detached houses, many with long gardens running towards the sea, where the briefs are extensions, open-plan ground floors, new kitchens with glazing across the back, and garden structures from studios to pool surrounds. Inland it is the same post-war family housing and bungalows as the rest of Bognor, with the same jobs: knocking a kitchen through, a loft, a bathroom made level-access for the years ahead.

One address where the rules genuinely change

Most of Aldwick is ordinary Arun District Council territory, and a rear extension or a loft dormer is usually permitted development. Craigweil House is the exception, and it is worth knowing because it is unusual: it carries the only two conservation-area Article 4 Directions that Arun publishes anywhere in the district. Inside that designation the permitted development rights most homeowners rely on have been removed, so work that would be a formality two streets away needs a planning application here. If your address is in or beside it, that is the first thing we check, before anyone draws anything.

The larger Victorian and Edwardian villas along this edge have often been divided into flats. That brings a second decision-maker into the job alongside the council — the freeholder or the management company — and their consent needs to be in hand before materials are ordered, not after.

Salt, wind and sandy ground

Anything facing the sea here gets the full weather. Standard exterior ironmongery will not last three years on a seafront elevation, so the specification on exposed work is marine-grade stainless fixings, powder-coated aluminium glazing and a render system that will take wind-driven rain. Underfoot the coastal plain is silt and marine clay with a high water table, and what the trial hole shows decides the footing design, not the drawing.

A job of ours on The Drive

We are on site in Aldwick now, on a house on The Drive, building the hard landscaping around a new swimming pool: the reinforced concrete base to the pool surround, the coping, a broad sandstone terrace, the steps and paths that join the levels, and a garden studio. The pool itself is being installed by a specialist pool company under its own contract, so the programme has been written around theirs — the lower terrace has to be laid and pointed before their liner can go in, which puts our paving inside their timetable rather than after it. It started in September 2026 and will run through the autumn.

That interface — two firms, one garden, one sequence — is the kind of thing that goes wrong when nobody owns it. On this job the sequence is written down, both sides have agreed it, and the client has one number to ring.

Where to start

Aldwick does not have its own service pages, so start with the main ones: house extensions in Bognor Regis, loft conversions in Bognor Regis, landscaping and outdoor living, garden rooms and annexes, kitchen fitting and bathrooms and wet rooms. The town pages are builders in Bognor Regis and, a mile further west, builders in Pagham.

Tell us the road and which way the back of the house faces, and the quotation will allow for the exposure rather than discover it later. Send us your drawings or ring 07470 078236. Building here since 2008, insured for £2m public liability with employers' liability alongside it, quotations itemised line by line.
