Builders in Littlehampton
Littlehampton is the eastern edge of where we work, and it is close enough to run properly: twenty minutes along the A259 from our unit at Middleton-on-Sea, which is near enough for James to be on site at the start of the day and back at the end of it. We will not take a job we cannot supervise, and Littlehampton is well inside that line.

The town has a wider spread of housing than the villages between here and Bognor. Around the river and the older streets there are Victorian terraces and townhouses; through the rest of the town and out towards Wick and Rustington it is the familiar 1930s to 1960s semis and bungalows. The terraces buy internal work — knock-throughs, lofts, bathrooms, and the structural repairs that come with a house of that age — and the semis buy extensions and garage conversions.
Three conservation areas and a tidal river
Arun District Council decides planning here, and Littlehampton has three conservation areas on the council's published list: East Street, River Road and the seafront. Inside them the permitted development rights that cover a dormer or a side extension elsewhere are switched off, and the council looks harder at windows, roofs and anything seen from the street. The Environment Agency also runs a tidal alert area over Rope Walk, Ferry Road and Bridge Road on the west bank of the lower Arun. So on some streets a heritage question and a tidal one turn up at the same address, and both need answering before an application goes in. We check the address against both lists at the first visit.
What we have and have not done here
We will be straight with you: the jobs we have written up as case studies are in Chichester, Bognor Regis, Guildford and Petersfield, not Littlehampton. We have done smaller work in and around the town over the years, but nothing we can show you with photographs and an owner's permission, and we would rather say that than dress up a coverage page as a portfolio. What you can see is how we run the jobs we have documented, what they cost and how long they took, and whatever is open on site at the moment, which you are welcome to visit.
Same rates, no travel loading
A bathroom in Littlehampton is quoted on the same rates as a bathroom in Middleton-on-Sea. There is no mileage buried in the labour. What moves the price is access, what the trial hole turns up and the specification you choose — and on a terrace near the river, access is the one to think about first, because a skip and a scaffold lorry need somewhere to stand and that is a permit rather than a given.
Where to start
Littlehampton does not have its own service pages, so start with the main ones: house extensions, loft conversions, building works and renovations, garage conversions, kitchen fitting and bathrooms and wet rooms. The nearest pages are builders in Rustington next door and builders in Arundel up the river.
Tell us the street and we will tell you at the first visit whether you are inside a conservation area or the tidal zone, and what that means for the job. Send us your drawings or ring 07470 078236. Building in West Sussex since 2008, insured for £2m public liability with employers' liability alongside it, quotations itemised line by line.
